Retro Holiday Collection

Every so often I think about this specific brand of chocolates you could get around the holidays in Canada. They were cheap enough that I, as a child with limited resources, could purchase them and they just hit in a way that’s hard to describe. As I was scrolling TikTok last week, they showed up on my feed from someone else who was equally nostalgic for these chocolates (and possibly a time when we were less burdened by all the shit going on in the world).

This nostalgic feeling is what inspired this retro vibes holiday collection. Making sledding trails on the tiny hill in the backyard. Mittens on a string so we wouldn’t lose them. Sitting under the lights of a twinkling tree, excited for the magic of the season. Pulling out the same ornaments year after year and greeting them like old friends.

As an adult I’ve sometimes struggled with celebrating the holiday season but this year I’m hoping to take some cues from my childhood self and this retro collection. Making memories and finding magic in the small things, using the resources I have and being thankful for them. My next project? A winter-themed crochet star garland using yarn I already have in my stash. What about you?
